Do hamsters trust humans?

I'd reply "no." As prey animals, hamsters naturally defend themselves from humans. They are known to bite, and because they will leave their person, they cannot be left unattended outside of their cage. Hamsters can undoubtedly come to trust people and even enjoy brief periods of being held or petted, but I don't believe they are able to develop the same kinds of close relationships with people as rats, dogs, or cats can. Not that they don't make wonderful pets; in fact, I've owned hamsters for much of my life. However, they are naturally wary creatures, and humans pose a threat to them.

How do I make my hamster trust me?

Allow him some time to adjust to his new home on his own. Avoid being an overprotective pet owner. Enter his enclosure only to deliver food or toys for the time being. Instead of worrying him and making him scamper up the walls to escape you, let him learn that your presence signals food and enjoyable things. He may learn to distrust or fear you in the future if you carry on in this manner. This relationship will pay off if you give it some time. Recognize the body language of your pet. Give it a week or two, then begin to tempt him with food. Try hand-feeding him a small carrot. He is tiny, you are a massive giant in his eyes. Take it easy on the little fella. In his perspective, you are a huge behemoth whereas he is a little man. Be gentle with the small guy.
